Veteran Tradeshow Industry Journalist Takes the Helm at EXPO Magazine

EXPO, the fastest-moving and most comprehensive brand covering the world of tradeshows and expositions, has named Michael Hart as executive editor, effective Monday, September 10.

Hart is a tradeshow-industry veteran, having served as editor-in-chief of Tradeshow Week for eight years. During his tenure at Tradeshow Week, Hart led the build out of an e-media business for that brand and played a key role in the creation and expansion of a variety of awards and recognition initiatives, including the TSW Fastest 50.

More than that, as a topnotch business journalist, Hart steered TSW in the direction of delivering value to the industry through news, analysis, perspective and mission-critical strategic reporting.

"We're thrilled to be working with Michael Hart," said EXPO General Manager Tony Silber. "It demonstrates our continued commitment to providing our industry with the best content available anywhere dedicated to partnering with show organizers, venues and industry suppliers for mutual success."

At EXPO, Hart is charged with sustaining and enhancing the brand's industry-leading journalism, online and off, and building our events as well. "EXPO has become the industry's go-to source for content vital to the success of show organizers," Hart said. "I'm delighted to be joining a storied brand that is essential to the success of the expo industry, and my expectation is to make it even more so."

Most recently, Hart was executive editor of T.H.E. Journal, a b-to-b brand that covers K-12 educational technology. He has also held editing positions with the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Business Journal and the Glendale (Ariz.) Star. Hart is a graduate of the University of the Pacific and did graduate work in journalism at the University of Arizona

Hart joins another Tradeshow Week veteran, Michael Hughes, on EXPO. Hughes leads EXPO's innovative custom-research business, a vital service used extensively by both venues and show organizers, and by EXPO Magazine itself for unique industry content.

Hiring one of the industry's most respected editors is only the latest initiative undertaken by EXPO in 2012.

  • In June, EXPO launched Expo Next, a two-day conference for show organizers that was acclaimed by attendees, exhibitors and speakers alike for creating a unique value-proposition and for offering a rich, top-quality program and high-level faculty.
  • In October and November, EXPO is launching Ex2, a first-ever one-day seminar series designed to deliver exactly what you need for a deeper understanding of current trends, emerging technologies and fast-changing best practices and techniques in both exhibitor and sponsor sales and attendee marketing. Ex2 will be held in New York and Los Angeles.
  • In April, EXPO launched the E.X.C.I.T.E. Awards, a first-ever program that shines a spotlight on the best aspects of a show; the venue, the quality of the marketing, the freshness of the event concept, the on-site experience, and more.
  • In 2011, EXPO launched two signature editorial features, the 25 Fastest-Growth Shows, measured by an exclusive custom-created matrix; and The Expo Elite, which each year recognizes the 20 most innovative people in the industry.
