The Executive Leadership Conference scheduled to take place this week in Williamsburg, Va., has been canceled because of Hurricane Sandy.
Ken Allen, the executive director of the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council, sent an email Sunday announcing the decision.
"While we regret the need to take this action, the safety of those participating is our number one priority," he wrote. "ACT-IAC will work as quickly as possible to contact your regarding our refund policy in the coming week."
This would have been the 22nd annual ELC. Allen said to the best of his knowledge, this was the first one ACT-IAC had to cancel.
"We have already started discussions with the conference chairs (Casey Coleman and Ted Davies) about reprogramming the content into events we do in D.C.," Allen wrote in an email to Federal News Radio. "More details will be available once we return home."
The Office of Personnel Management closed federal buildings in the D.C. area to the public Monday. The New York City Federal Executive Board has also decided to close federal buildings in that area. Federal News Radio is contacting all Federal Executive Boards in cities outside of D.C. to determine federal operating statuses for those regions as well.
Many public transportation outlets used by federal employees in the D.C. region have already canceled service for Monday. Some federal buildings outside of D.C. are also closed. View the full list of closures and delays.
