Seven Tracks Focus on Strategies and Tactics for Addressing Emergency Situations, Disasters and Cyber Attacks

WASHINGTON --

With an increase need to prevent and respond to incidents impacting our nation on a local, state and federal scale, government agencies, law enforcement and first responders have realized that they all have a stake in protecting their communities and the homeland from natural disasters and manmade threats. Scheduled for May 13-15 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., GovSec - the Government Security Conference and Expo, taking place in conjunction with TREXPO and CPM East - is presenting seven paid conference tracks that will help enable these security professionals to engage effectively in a national approach to prevention, mitigation and response to 21st century threats.

"GovSec has put together a comprehensive agenda that will enable attendees to gain a wealth of knowledge at a single event," said Colonel Jenni Hesterman (US Air Force, retired), a counterterrorism expert who serves on GovSec's Advisory Council. "Across all GovSec sessions, we will show why it takes the broader community - from the large federal agencies down to local law enforcement departments - to identify and address many of the security issues impacting us today. Conference participants will have a valuable opportunity to gain insight into the many core issues impacting national and personal security, making them more effective in their jobs."

Conference tracks include:

  • Counter and Anti-Terrorism - Sessions in this track will increase awareness and understanding of terrorist threats to our nation's physical and economic security, and offer strategies to prepare, prevent and respond to increasingly sophisticated attacks.
  • Critical Infrastructure Protection - As threats to our nation's critical         infrastructure continue to rise, these sessions will show the government and the private sector how to implement strategies and technologies that will best protect and secure these key resources.
  • Cybercrime & Cyberterrorism - Whether coming from foreign governments, organized crime or terrorist organizations, cyber attacks continue to rise. This track features sessions that will provide an understanding of the nature and source of these attacks and how to protect against them.
  • Continuity/Emergency Planning & Management - Only the well-prepared survive, whether it's in government, law enforcement, education or business. These sessions will enable attendees to employ strategies to help their organizations remain adaptive and resilient in the face of         economic challenges, domestic threats, natural disasters, health issues, international terrorism and cyber attacks.
  • Law Enforcement Strategies and Tactics - As the first line of defense, law enforcement must have the strategic and tactical knowledge to meet the challenge of the familiar and the unexpected. From front line to the highest levels of command, these sessions will enable attendees to fine tune their leadership skills and learn valuable lessons that can be implemented quickly and effectively.
  • Access Control & Video Surveillance - The need for flexible, scalable  and effective access control system that protects people, assets and facilities is of prime importance to security professionals. These sessions will address the materials, equipment, systems and procedures, as well as how to integrate them into a comprehensive physical security infrastructure.
  • Campus Security & Life Safety - Tragic incidents at schools and universities have elevated the need for school administrators, emergency managers and security personnel to create and maintain a safer campus environment. Security experts and leaders from public and private institutions at all levels will educate attendees with strategies, best practices and case studies for effectively preparing, preventing and responding to threats.

For a full list of sessions in each track, go to the Conference Overview on the GovSec website. Participants in the GovSec conference also have access to programming for TREXPO and CPM East, which enable individuals to gain even greater education on issues faced by law enforcement and contingency planning professionals.
