The Security Innovation Network (SINET) is a virtuous collaborative collective led by the highly regarded mission-focused cyber security community leader Robert Rodriguez.

The mission of SINET is to advance innovation and enable global collaboration between the public and private sectors to defeat cybersecurity threats, and they have proven past performance in their ability to make a difference in this domain.

One of their key events is the annual IT Security Entrepreneurs' Forum (ITSEF).  This event is sponsored by the US Department of Homeland Security, Office of Science and Technology, and this year is being held 19 and 20 March in Palo Alto, California. Recorded Future held their annual user network conference in DC 16 Oct 2012.  This post is the first of a two part debrief on the event:

On The Ambiance: The event was packed. Standing room only. And it was packed with the right kinds of people. Government and Industry thought leaders, analysts and data scientists with real world responsibilities came together for a day of fast-paced sharing and interactions. It would be impossible to give justice to the many sidebar conversations: but they were all meaty and interesting since frequently the conversations were between people serving vastly different missions but sharing common needs for more insight on the world around them. This makes sharing of lessons learned, models and concepts of operation fun and mutually beneficial. And if you have an event that is both fun and mutually beneficial you have a recipe for an enduring community. So there is something magic happening here.

The US petrochemical industry appears on the verge of a resurgence powered by the market-shifting abundance of cheap feedstock associated with the North American natural gas production renaissance.

Petrochemical companies are beginning to move their operations back onto domestic soil, thanks to the large volumes of liquids being produced from the wet portions of prolific unconventional natural gas deposits. A major step in this direction came earlier this year when Shell announced plans to build a petrochemical facility in Pennsylvania that would utilize NGLs being produced from the Marcellus Shale play.
