Overview: 

Many Federal agencies are now utilizing Agile methods such as Scrum to manage their software development efforts. The goal for most of them is to reduce risk and accelerate system delivery to their end users. By using Scrum with the development team they have achieved part of their goal. But major risks and speedbumps still exist after the software is developed. These are encountered during deployment by the operations groups and are normally outside the purview of the development team. The de facto approach to this issue in the private sector is Continuous Delivery and DevOps. That same approach is now being successfully applied to the public sector.

 

AGILE Development in Government Training Workshop VI:  DevOps – Taking Agility in Government to a New Level is designed to provide the attendees with practical insights into DevOps best practices and the latest thinking on Lean principles that include the foundational and holistic level practices of Continuous Delivery, and the more advanced practices of DevOps. In addition, our participating government panelists will share with the attendees how they are adopting DevOps within their agencies, including insights into some of the motivations, challenges, and benefits they have experienced.

Instuctors:

Philippa Fewell, Managing Director, Enterprise Solutions, CC PACE    

 

Phil has had a long-tenured, progressive consulting career leading to her current position as Managing Director of CC Pace’s Enterprise Solutions Group. Her practice focuses on application development services, training and coaching in Lean and Agile Methods.

 

David C. Patton, Director, Federal Practice, C.C. Pace Systems, Inc.

 

David has been developing software at large corporations, government agencies, and startups for over 25 years. He has delivered systems using Agile software development methodologies since 2000. He was an early adopter of Extreme Programming and is one of the author’s of CC Pace’s Agile Engineering Practices course material. He has used Scrum extensively and is a Certified ScrumMaster. He is also trained in Kanban and a certified SAFe Agilist.

 

In addition to developing software he has also been a database administrator, system administrator, and network administrator. His experience in those roles contributes to his knowledge of DevOps and Continuous Delivery.
