DHS Active Shooter Preparedness Workshop - Port Canaveral, Florida

THIS IS NOT A TACTICAL TRAINING COURSE

Given today's ever-changing threat environment, preparing for and training employees to cope with workplace violence should be a key piece of an organization's incident response planning. The threat of homegrown violent extremist (HVE) activities gives cause to reinforce, inform and assist our stakeholders on successful security practices which can mitigate, prevent or limit the severity of a violent act.  The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP), the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis and the Northeast and Eastern Central Florida Area Maritime Security Committee members will be planning and executing a multi-jurisdictional Active Shooter Preparedness exercise series over the next eighteen months.  The first activity in this series is a workshop designed to assist in the development of an Active Shooter Preparedness plan and to share relevant planning information with owners/operators within Port Canaveral and adjacent partners.  This workshop will provide an overview of HVE incidents, self-radicalized persons, and the current threat environment.  In addition, owners/operators will be provided the available tools, resources, and best practices designed to protect, prevent, and mitigate the consequences of an active shooter or hostile intruder incidents.
