DHS Active Shooter Preparedness Workshop - Warwick, RI
THIS IS NOT A TACTICAL TRAINING COURSE
This Active Shooter Preparedness Workshop is sponsored by the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency.
Preparing employees for a potential active shooter incident is an integral component of an organization’s incident response planning. Because active shooter incidents are unpredictable and evolve quickly, preparing for and knowing what to do in an active shooter situation can be the difference between life and death. Every second count.
Description: This workshop will focus on providing a broad range of public and private partner stakeholders with active shooter awareness training. Workshop goals include recognition, prevention, and preparedness training for active shooter incidents with an emphasis on emergency action plan development. The workshop incorporates breakout sessions in order to provide participants with an opportunity to develop their own emergency action plan. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will return to their organization with the foundational elements of their personal active shooter emergency action plan.
The workshop addresses fundamental concepts and key elements of successful incident management and planning efforts:
-
Educating participants on the history of active shooter events
-
Describing behavioral indicators of persons on the pathway to violence
-
Implementing an effective active shooter prevention program
-
Fostering collaboration between critical infrastructure owners and operators and local emergency responders
-
Communications protocols for notification of all persons on the premises
-
Communicating with the public and the media
-
Incorporating the needs of persons with disabilities into the plan
-
Accounting for employees and guests at the facility
-
Developing plans for recovering from an active shooter incident
