Exploring Strange New Worlds With William Shatner
In 1965, Gene Roddenberry and the cast of Star Trek introduced a fascination with space exploration into American popular culture, a phenomenon that still persists over half a century later. Leading us into that exciting future was Mr.William Shatner as Captain Kirk. In this Red Hat® Coffee Hour session, Mr. Shatner will join Red Hatter Adam Clater to talk about Star Trek and its influence on technology, space travel, and sustainability.
In three seasons of television and seven feature films, Shatner’s Captain Kirk brought each of us a little closer to Star Trek’s vision of the future. Shatner was a pioneer in his own right, breaking the color barrier on television with the first televised interracial kiss, and he has gone on to delight audiences in over 50 movies, released more than half a dozen albums, and—most recently—set the Guinness World Record as the oldest person to reach space at the age of 90. Join us to learn the insights that Mr. Shatner has gained on seeing our home from space, as well as his perspective on what we need to do to protect our fragile planet.
