Chicago Red Hat User Group
We invite you to join Couchbase, Red Hat® experts, and your Chicago Red Hat User Group (RHUG) peers to learn about Couchbase using Red Hat OpenShift® at the edge, building cloud platforms and portals, and using Red Hat Ansible® Automation Platform running on Red Hat OpenShift.
In addition to having full bellies, attendees will walk away with newfound knowledge of best practices for deploying edge computing for retail use cases, the role of Backstage (an open source framework for building developer portals) in the cloud platform and portal space, building out an Ansible Automation Platform to meet high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) needs on Red Hat OpenShift in a cloud environment.
AGENDA
Session 1: Couchbase on Red Hat OpenShift at the network edge
In this session, attendees will learn about how Couchbase can be built on Red Hat OpenShift to support a leading, next-generation retail use case that uses the low-latency benefits of edge computing—from a centralized cloud database, to the edge, to the device. We will lead a discussion on best practices when containerizing a database for an edge use case, allowing attendees to gain insight into emerging trends in edge computing.
Presenter: Jamie Foss, Couchbase
Session 2: Build cloud platforms and portals with Red Hat
It's hard to miss recent industry chatter about developer platforms and platform engineering. As application developers shift to cloud-native distributed architecture, they increasingly rely on capabilities transparently provided by their environments, such as identity, observability, data stores, message buses, and delivery systems. Internal platforms bring these capabilities together in a consistent, user-friendly, self-serviceable way for efficient use by developers. Often, a portal like Backstage also complements the platform and presents its capabilities in a discoverable way to both developers and users.
In this session, we’ll:
- Discuss what an internal platform is, and the benefits and values it promises to bring to enterprises and large organizations.
- Explore the baseline capabilities a platform should include and how to prioritize platform initiatives to maximize impact and time to value.
- Highlight where and how developer portals, like Backstage, fit as an important part of a platform.
- Demonstrate how to build a platform with Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift, and add capabilities via operators and cloud services as well as graphical user interfaces (GUI) and application programming interfaces (API) designed for them.
Presenters: Josh Gavant and Ryan Nix, Red Hat
Session 3: Ansible Automation Platform running on Red Hat OpenShift, Part 2
- During this second installment, we will continue our exploration of using Ansible Automation Platform operator and Red Hat OpenShift to:
- Satisfy the HA/DR use case: Setting up the backend database on Red Hat OpenShift for high availability and disaster recovery of your Ansible Automation Platform deployment.
- Create container groups for your execution environments to execute playbooks closer to targets using ephemeral capacity.
Presenters: Keyvan Pishevar and Scott Danielson, Red Hat
