Enhancing Logistics with Supply Chain Visibility

“You won’t find it difficult to prove that battles, campaigns, and even wars have been won or lost primarily because of logistics,” Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower once said. Agencies in the national security and public safety sectors, such as the Department of Defense and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, understand the critical importance of logistics in ensuring that the right personnel and right materials are available to carry out their missions.

An efficient and secure supply chain relies on key processes for effective logistics, one of which involves developing supply chain visibility that is integrated into supply planning. Supply chain visibility, which connects logistics and supply chain activities to deliver operational support, involves providing real-time data flow, predictive analytics, and seamless communication among numerous stakeholders.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the links in your supply chain and the data sources that can be drawn upon to track components
  • Delineate the elements of a visibility architecture for your supply chain
  • Outline the importance of scenario modeling and supply chain problem in supporting the operation – reacting to changes in objectives or the environment, such as unplanned disruptive events, demand signal changes, etc.
  • Review the role of collaborating to keep all parts of the supply chain informed and modify plans in real time
  • Discover the application of visibility data to improve supply chain planning
