Data Modeling for State & Local Governments
If a picture is worth a thousand words, turning data into graphical images that show relationships must be just as valuable. Agencies across the country, looking for ways to better leverage the value of the data they already gather, are wrestling with how to implement data modeling to make use of the information.
There are four key areas where data modeling tools provide value:
- Data governance and compliance is easier when a data modeling tool allows the seamless integration of data from different sources while standardizing definitions and formats;
- Data migration and digital transformation are improved, as data mapping and integration provide a comprehensive view of data architecture and identify dependencies;
- Data modeling tools provide clarity to data structures and relationships, and offers graphical illustrations of those relationships, improving understanding and communication among stakeholders; and
- These tools optimize database performance by enabling efficient design, development and validation, while reducing development time and cost, provide scalability and create database architectures that are easier to maintain.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the benefits of using data modeling, such as improved data literacy and decision-making throughout the organization
- Outline ways that data modeling tools can play a role in agile application development, especially in a hybrid compute environment
- Evaluate the ways data modeling tools can improve automation and standardization and establish metrics for reducing both costs and risks
