Chairman, House Intelligence Committee
In 2011, Rep. Mike Rogers was appointed to chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and is a national leader on national security policy. In the 112th Congress, he authored three bipartisan intelligence authorization bills which were signed into law, and wrote a cybersecurity bill aimed to protect American innovation and the jobs that come with it from cyber predators. Rogers was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at the University of Michigan, and later served as an FBI special agent before being elected to the Michigan Senate in 1995. He has served Michigan’s eighth congressional district in Congress since 2001.
Arati Prabhakar
Director, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)
Arati Prabhakar is the director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Her first service to national security was from 1986 to 1993 when she served as a DARPA program manager and office director. In 1993, President Clinton appointed Prabhakar to director of the National Institute of Technology, where she led the organization in its work with companies across multiple industries. Prabhakar moved to Silicon Valley in 1997, first as chief technology officer and senior vice president at Raychem. She later became vice president and then president of Interval Research. From 2001 to 2011, she was a partner with U.S. Venture Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm.
Alejandro Mayorkas
Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Alejandro Mayorkas was sworn in as deputy secretary of Homeland Security on Dec. 23, 2013. Since 2009, following his nomination by President Obama and subsequent confirmation, Deputy Secretary Mayorkas served as the director of the Department of Homeland Security’s United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the agency charged with operating the largest immigration system in the world. In that position, he led a workforce of 18,000 members throughout more than 250 offices worldwide and oversaw a $3 billion annual budget. While at USCIS he oversaw a number of programs and enhancements, including the implementation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
