Coexisting or Clashing: 5G with Radar/Satellite
With new bands specified for 5G communications systems, there is now an issue of coexistence, which is radar and satellite using the same or similar frequency bands with 5G. Such coexistence can cause loss of capacity in 5G systems, can cause reduction of radar effectivity, and can even damage sensitive front ends in satellite ground stations. In this presentation we discuss new digital twin technologies that can be used for planning and simulation purposes of coexistence effects. We also discuss the use of lab prototyping to predict the impact of coexistence, and the metrics used to measure impact. We also describe methods and metrics for monitoring a deployed network for coexistence conditions. Lastly, we possibilities for mitigating coexistence effects. With these technologies, EM effects can possibly coexist across all domains.
Speaker and Presenter Information
Dr. Raymond Shen directs 5G Govt Solutions at Keysight Technologies. In this role he leads Keysight's vast portfolio of end-to-end 5G test solutions for defense and government. He also leads Keysight’s Cybersecurity and spectrum monitoring solutions, managing solutions that include handheld, outdoor, and modular platforms. He has over 20 years of experience in spectrum monitoring and signal demodulation, with expertise in cellular signals. Shen has a BS EE from Caltech and a MS EE and PhD EE from Stanford University, where his PhD was in the area of neural networks.
