In January the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania unveiled its new Ten-Year Strategic Plan to foster economic growth. The plan targets five industries – agriculture, energy, life sciences, manufacturing, and robotics/technology – all of which will rely on investments to upgrade and innovate systems and technologies currently in place.

This includes a continued focus on rethinking how agencies can work at the speed of industry, from streamlining business licensing times to encouraging entrepreneurship.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate the state’s current strengths in IT innovation and the agencies and locales already acting to incorporate new technologies into their operations
  • Review the role that emerging IT can play to inject new capabilities into the five strategic industries identified in the plan
  • Delineate the steps needed to create tangible, tactical actions to deliver on the promise of the strategy

1:00PM: Session 1 – The 10-Year Strategic Plan

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has released a new strategic plan for 2024-2033 aimed at providing a jumpstart to economic development. Its goals and initiatives include expanding support for small businesses, streamlining state agencies’ processes to cut red tape and improve the customer experience, expanding workforce training and educational opportunities to retain talented young people in the state, and fostering innovation by supporting entrepreneurs and key economic sectors. Our panel will discuss the elements of the plan now in place and the ways that state agencies are acting on these priorities.

2:00PM: Session 2 – Targeting Priority Industry Sectors

Every state has particular industrial strengths and assets. Pennsylvania has identified five where the state enjoys a competitive advantage or believes that, with targeted investment, it can create an advantage. Those sectors are agriculture, energy, life sciences, manufacturing, and robotics and technology. Our panel will review why these five areas provide an opportunity for Pennsylvania to strengthen its economy and broaden success for its residents.

3:00PM: Session 3 – Focus on Technology and Robotics

Pennsylvania has world-renowned research and development centers, such as Carnegie Mellon University, recognized for its engineering and computer programs. This has led the wider Pittsburgh area to become a technology hub, with innovative new companies and well-known corporations alike creating a vibrant technology-based local economy. Our panel will discuss both the organic growth of this tech center and the steps being taken to accelerate its expansion.

4:00PM: Networking Reception

Join us for a Networking reception after the event. A delicious menu and drinks will be served.
