State governments understand that utilizing IT effectively is the key to delivering excellent customer service. For instance, in Ohio the current strategic plan forthrightly states that the “use of State technology assets to increase the wellbeing of Ohioans and their health, property, security, livelihood, and prosperity is essential.” Measures include improving information security and privacy, building on cloud-smart infrastructure services, and strengthening emergency communications.

This translates into a recognition that interactions with state agencies must be viewed from the customer perspective. To that end, the Ohio government has required that agencies use its InnovateOhio platform to coordinate data and resources to improve the way agencies tackle their most challenging problems.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the ways that Innovate Ohio is being used to coordinate data and resources and streamline technology services across state agencies
  • Outline the components of enterprise shared services being provided, including cloud services, document management, and strengthening information security and privacy
  • Delineate the role of data center services in storage, servers, networks and communications, and disaster recovery, among others

1:00PM: Session 1 - Improving Cybersecurity in a Hyper Connected World

Cybersecurity is the foundation upon which all internet-based transactions are built. Much of Ohio's focus in shared services innovation will be on continuously strengthening the state's security posture, as security must evolve and adapt to protect the state and its residents from new cyber threats. Our panelists will discuss the state's progress in improving its own cybersecurity posture and strengthening local agencies' protections.

2:00PM: Session 2 - Better Customer Experience Makes Happier Residents

Ohio's InnovateOhio platform is about ensuring State resources and information are accessible to every Ohioan, simplifying interactions with state agencies, and protecting customers' privacy. Our panelists will discuss how Ohio is mapping the customer journey through state systems and using that information to deploy technology to provide better customer service.

3:00PM: Session 3 - Migrating to Cloud Services

In its cloud smart strategy for migrating agencies to the cloud, Ohio's Office of Information Technology is focusing on supporting and guiding agencies that are looking to Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service, including acting as a broker of these services. Our panelists will share their experiences using these services and how they contribute to improving state operations to benefit Ohioans.
